Momentum Executive
Chef Gives a Lesson in Culinary Arts
The students
and staff at the Fortune Society’s Culinary Arts Class at 39 West 19th
Street in New York City got a treat on May 11, 2006 when they invited Momentum’s
Executive Chef and Director of Food and Site Services, Shawn Thorne, as a guest
chef. Chef Thorne displayed his top notch culinary skills as well as his
signature knife skill demonstrations as he taught students how to prepare a
meal. The following items were on the menu: guacamole, corn salsa, steak
fajitas, and yellow rice topped off with coconut flan.
Shawn Thorne
was invited to serve as a volunteer chef by Betty Wilson, Director of Culinary
Arts at the Fortune Society. The Society is a not-for-profit community-based
organization dedicated to educating the public about prisons, criminal justice
issues, and the root causes of crime. They also help former prisoners and
at-risk youth break the cycle of crime and incarceration through a broad range
of services, including teaching them culinary skills.
