NYC HIV/AIDS Services and Momentum Lose a Stalwart Advocate
and Employee

One of the greatest hearts in the history of The Momentum Project ceased to beat
some time over this past weekend. Momentum announces with deep sorrow the
passing of Robert Bolton, our first employee.
Today, some of Robert’s co-workers and friends reminisced about his many
contributions to Momentum and his advocacy for thousands of people living with
HIV/AIDS. Staff referred to Robert as the “Conscience of Momentum” because he
was always encouraging staff to remember why this organization exists—for its
clients; and they labeled him a “Hero” of the AIDS epidemic.
Robert Bolton was born in South Africa, coming to America almost 40 years ago.
He served on one of the first Buddy Teams at GMHC and later became a Momentum
Volunteer. As Momentum’s first employee, he served as Financial Advocate for
needy clients. He was instrumental in setting up new sites in 1988. He worked
for many years in administration, most recently as Momentum’s Contract
Compliance Manager, supervising all data input.
He is survived by a sister who resides in South Africa. Funeral and memorial
service arrangements are pending.
